Overview
The course aims to qualify education professionals to apply advanced knowledge and skills to educational contexts, to increase awareness of the importance of practitioner research, and to encourage and permit the critical appraisal of policy, theory, and practice in the education professions. The course improves professional competence for educators, enlarges capacity for self-development and serves as a pathway for further learning. It aims to prepare graduates for educational leadership across a range of contexts.

Core subject EER504 Contemporary Education Professionals must be undertaken in the first session of study, while capstone/final subject *EEB503 Education Professionals for the Future must be undertaken in the final session of study.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this course, graduates will be able to:

Knowledge Building • Explain developments and innovations in educational contexts with reference to research and evidence from a range of contexts; • Synthesise and critically evaluate relevant theories, research and models taking into account culture, socio-political and historical patterns, global/local issues; and • Investigate and generate information, concepts and theories related to specific bodies of knowledge or practice.

Practitioner Research • Critically evaluate and explain research principles and methods applicable to educational contexts; • Locate, access, critically evaluate and use relevant research information and data to facilitate planning, problem solving and decision making to improve professional knowledge and practice, and the educational outcomes of students; and • Design and execute ethical research, inquiry, or a piece of scholarship, using appropriate methodologies and approaches consistent with professional values, to identify new ideas and creative solutions.

Professional Relationships and Communication • Demonstrate the ability to use cognitive, technical and creative skills to effectively and appropriately interpret and communicate theoretical propositions and professional decisions to specialist and non-specialist audiences taking account of context and purpose; • Appropriately use technology within ethical and legal parameters to communicate professionally, and to participate in online learning, professional and social communities; and • Initiate and engage in professional discussions in a range of forums, contribute to professional networks, and build productive links in global/local contexts in order to improve professional knowledge and practice, and educational outcomes.

Ethical Practice: Application of Skills and Knowledge • Apply knowledge and skills with creativity, initiative and judgement to new situations and decision-making in professional practice to promote and ensure continuous improvement; and • Reflect critically on theory, scholarship and professional practice to evaluate and improve teaching and learning through informed, accountable, ethical decision-making.

Leadership • Reflect on personal capabilities, professional standards, and feedback to plan and negotiate personal professional learning goals and actions to achieve these; and • Initiate and lead change through processes of inquiry, collaboration, and influence within professional contexts.
