Overview
The aim of the course is to:
- provide students with foundational knowledge in the study of Islam, giving them a basic understanding of the social, historic, practical, contemporary and spiritual aspects of Islam;
- provide students with the skills to understand Islamic Studies in a changing context;
- provide a course in Islamic Studies for students for whom a 1 or 2 year study program is their preferred option; and
- provide a platform and incentive to further their studies in Islamic Studies.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this course, graduates will be able to:
1.
be well grounded in knowledge of foundational Islamic disciplines and apply this knowledge and research evidence in diverse contexts;
2.
reflect and apply the principles of various Islamic disciplines in order to understand how Islam and its study facilitates open enquiry, ethical practice, social justice, cultural and religious diversity, reconciliation and environmental sustainability;
3.
demonstrate cognitive and creative skills to exercise critical thinking and judgement in identifying and solving problems with intellectual independence;
4.
apply learned knowledge and skills to the process of decision making of existing and emerging issues related to Islamic practice in the modern world;
5.
demonstrate analytical skills, including the exercise of critical and reflective reasoning and judgement;
6.
demonstrate communication skills in varying contexts to present a clear, coherent and independent exposition of knowledge and ideas related to Islamic Studies;
7.
be able to work effectively individually and as part of teams, with their peers and superiors in knowledge and critically reflect on their own learning and practice;

have comprehensive knowledge of religious rituals and ceremonies
