Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

be able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of relevant literature and important Muslim socio-historical issues in the Australian context;
2.
be able to demonstrate an understanding of the socio-historical concepts of immigration, settlement, integration, and social policies in Australia, and the plurality of the interpretations of these concepts;
3.
be able to discuss critically the impact of historical events in the settlement of Muslims in Australia, and be able to analyse critically cross-cultural and civilisational encounters between Muslims and non-Muslims;
4.
be able to discuss critically the development of Muslim communities and institutions in Australia; and
5.
be able to critically interpret the past and the present within the context of the actions, values, ideals, encounters and contributions of Muslims.
