Overview

The aim of the Associate Degree of Policing Practice is to produce graduates who:

  1. at the point of attestation are able to undertake effectively the duties of a Probationary Constable of Police;
    and
  2. at the point of confirmation are able to undertake effectively the duties of a confirmed Constable of Police.

The confirmed Constable will have achieved a standard of proficiency where he/she is capable of dealing with all situations encountered in the course of their duties and of carrying out any function or investigation for any event that is not overly complex or of a protracted nature. The officer will be able to identify situations where referral is required; undertake to finality, where appropriate, all investigations, inquiries, documentation, administration, customer service and support; and work with minimal supervision.

The Associate Degree of Policing Practice focuses and builds on six core areas of police work and the National Competencies for Police Officers outlined by Australian New Zealand Policing Advisory Agency (ANZPAA). It aims to improve students' capacities in operational communication, problem-solving in a community context, safe custody and the use of alternatives to custody, investigation, working with victims, and ethics and accountability.
