Overview

Graduates at this level will have broad knowledge and skills for paraprofessional/highly skilled work and/or further learning; broad theoretical and technical knowledge of a specific area or a broad field of work and learning; and broad range of cognitive, technical and communication skills to select and apply methods and technologies to analyse and interpret information and to transmit solutions to complex problems in order to develop skills in others. Graduates at this level will be able to apply knowledge and skills to demonstrate autonomy, judgement and defined responsibility in contexts that are subject to change and within broad parameters to provide specialist advice and functions 

The program is available by distance education and is designed as an entry level course for people who wish to work in adult and vocational education settings as a teacher or trainer. It corresponds to the first half of the Bachelor of Adult and Vocational Education course.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this course, graduates will be able to:
1.
be able to demonstrate an understanding of adult learning theory, and skills in teaching and learning in a range of environments, including the classroom, workplace and online;
2.
be able to demonstrate an understanding of the competency-based education and training system in Australia, and skills in teaching and learning practices, assessment of student learning, and evaluation of training programs;
3.
be able to demonstrate an understanding of lifelong learning, and skills in reflective practices that enhance their own professional development;
4.
be able to demonstrate an understanding of the broad socio-economic and political context of adult and vocational education both in Australia and globally;
5.
be able to demonstrate an understanding of social justice and equity policies in relation to teaching and learning, and focusing on minority and marginalised learners and learner groups;
6.
be able to demonstrate proficiency in written communication, and an understanding of the use of appropriate communication technologies in education; and
7.
have the ability to analyse and think clearly and constructively about current developments in adult and vocational education and training.
