Syllabus
This subject will cover the following topics:
Comprehensive oral examination;Introduction to clinical practice;The preclinical development of technical skills and understanding the importance in relation to periodontal disease management;Periodontal tissues and periodontal disease;Cariology;Non-carious tooth loss; andOral radiology (principles, techniques and interpretation).
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
describe the aetiology and differential diagnosis of common oral conditions;
2.
explain the basic clinical procedures involved in the examination of the dental patient, including history, exam and diagnosis;
3.
apply foundation knowledge of oral condition, and basic clinical procedures in a clinical environment;
4.
describe the aetiology, diagnosis, differential diagnosis and immunopathogenesis of dental caries; and
5.
describe the aetiology, diagnosis, differential diagnosis and immunopathogenesis of periodontal disease.
