Chemical foundations;Classification of matter;Stoichiometry (brief overview);Gases;Atomic structure;Chemical bonding;The Biological Periodic Table;Thermodynamics, enthalpy and entropy;Chemical equilibrium;Acids and bases;Kinetics, rate equations, reaction mechanism;Carbon chemistry and covalent bonding, sigma and pi bonds, hybridisation, resonance, polarity, types of isomerism;Reaction chemistry and selected interconversion of organic compounds.

Students who have previously completed CHM115, CHM104, CHM107, CHM108, DOH121 or DOH122 in either a past or current CSU course, are required to obtain approval to enrol in CHM102 from the relevant subject coordinator prior to enrolment.
