Overview

The Associate Degree in Arts aims to provide graduates with a foundation in the humanities disciplines and depth of knowledge in one area of specialisation. The degree also incorporates aspects of work integrated learning and the opportunity to complete two modules of transferable skills that are valued in professional contexts. It also aims to equip students with advanced academic skills associated with reading, writing and critical thinking.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this course, graduates will be able to:
1.
Explicate a broad and coherent body of knowledge, with depth in the underlying principles and concepts in one or more disciplines of the Humanities and Social Sciences as a basis for independent lifelong learning and professional application.

Analyse ethical practice, social justice, cultural diversity, reconciliation and environmental sustainability in diverse contexts.
3.
Categorise and explain the assumptions and values inherent in human behaviour and power structures and explain the processes in past and present society that have produced social change.
4.
Review and analyse knowledge in diverse contexts; think critically and creatively about complex problems; and explain different perspectives.
5.
Demonstrate the cognitive and technical skills relevant to social research that facilitate communication of a clear, coherent and independent exposition of knowledge and ideas.
