This subject will cover the following topics:
Respiratory emergencies (15%)Cardiovascular emergencies (25%)Gastrointestinal (GI) and genitourinary (GU) emergencies (15%)Neurological emergencies (15%)Endocrine emergencies (15%)Sepsis (15%)
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
recognise/diagnose and explain the medical conditions encountered in paramedic practice;
2.
treat/manage patients experiencing a medical emergency using basic and intermediate interventions;
3.
safely and effectively handle, prepare and administer basic medications used in paramedic practice;
4.
use a range of diagnostic tests/medical equipment and technology that provides data, formulate a differential diagnosis for a patient experiencing a medical emergency; and
5.
communicate clearly with other health care providers in verbal handovers, patient care, and patient documentation.

Available only to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Clinical Practice (Paramedic), Bachelor of Paramedicine and Bachelor of Paramedicine (Honours).
