Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics with a pathology laboratory context: Basic microscopy and staining;Foundational microbiology;Foundational anatomy and histology; andAseptic techniques and specimen handling in the pathology laboratory.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
demonstrate general laboratory skills and experimental data analysis important in medical science and research;
2.
demonstrate a basic competence in microscopy and foundational staining techniques;
3.
demonstrate a basic competence in gross and microscopic anatomy of blood, tissues and organs;
4.
demonstrate a basic competence in the morphological identification of microorganisms; and
5.
demonstrate a basic competence in aseptic technique and specimen handling in the pathology laboratory.
