Overview

The Bachelor of Nursing at Charles Sturt University promotes understanding of social, ethical, culture and caring in all contexts that Registered Nurses work. The Bachelor of Nursing course will produce safe and competent graduates who use critical thinking and clinical reasoning to care for the public using evidence based practice. Bachelor of Nursing graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills essential for safe nursing practice in a rapidly changing and complex health care environment.​

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this course, graduates will be able to:
1.
Demonstrate clinical reasoning in the application of caring science in all aspects of professional nursing practice.
2.
Practise as a registered nurse in accordance with the ethical, legal and moral tenets of the nursing profession, including compliance with, and application of, Australian legislation, standards, codes, policies and guidelines, and common law relevant to nursing caring and practice.
3.
Source, evaluate, and apply high quality research in nursing and healthcare, to deliver optimal care for people across the lifespan.
4.
Use technology ethically and legally to practise as a registered nurse in the increasingly digitalised environment of healthcare delivery.
5.
Demonstrate and apply cultural safety in all contexts, with a commitment to social justice, including collaboratively advocating for equitable access to nursing and healthcare services for Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
6.
Practise professional nursing in a way that maintains the dignity of, demonstrates respect for, and values the cultural diversity of individuals, families, and communities.
7.
Demonstrate the skills required to be an independent, self-directed, self-motivated, and lifelong learner.
8.
Demonstrate skills and attitudes to influence the future of nursing at a global, political, social, and professional level, by responding to and anticipating the changing needs of diverse communities.

Demonstrate effective, safe and authentic caring for individuals, families and communities using the principles of the Caritas Processes®.
10.
Apply the ethical, legal and moral tenets of nursing to strengthen sustainable practices when delivering nursing care.

Demonstrate capacity for self-awareness and reflexivity in relation to personal attitudes and behaviours as registered nurses, with an ongoing commitment to the principles of self-care.
12.
Understand the impact of global issues on professional practice and human health and works constructively, respectfully and effectively with local and global communities and workplaces.
