It will also examine the lasting legacy of these policies as they relate to the wellbeing and treatment by the state of children in Indigenous Australian communities. The subject examines culturally responsive approaches to the protection of children and young people, including the right for self-determination for Indigenous communities and empowerment of those communities through their connection to Country. The terms Indigenous Australians and First Nations Australians will be used interchangeably throughout this subject.
