Handbook

This subject focuses on nurse leadership in the context of healthcare improvement and is designed for nursing leaders, clinicians and managers at all levels in healthcare to enable them to develop their leadership capacity in a way that leads to transformative change. Students will investigate and apply core concepts related to nursing leadership and develop strategies for supporting staff development and performance management. Students will also develop capacity to initiate, plan, implement and evaluate safety and quality improvement initiatives, and solve complex nursing problems in diverse settings.

This subject will cover the following topics:

• Understanding and analysing healthcare settings;
• Core concepts in nursing leadership;
• Environmental scanning and strategic management strategies;
• Psychological safety and well-being in nurse leadership;
• Defining, measuring and improving quality in healthcare - nurses role in leading improvement; and
• Key competencies for today's healthcare leaders.
