Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
be able to carry out calculations and use algebra accurately;
2.
be able to plot and interpret graphs;
3.
be able to use exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions in applications;
4.
be able to calculate the sums of arithmetic and geometric series and use them in simple financial calculations;
5.
be able to use vectors in scientific applications;
6.
be able to use the basic rules of differentiation and calculate derivatives of elementary functions;
7.
be able to use the basic rules of integration and calculate integrals of polynomial functions; and
8.
be able to interpret and write about applications of mathematics in their field of study.
Assumed knowledge
Mathematics to at least the level of HSC Mathematics Standard.
Enrolment restrictions
Available to undergraduate students only. Not available to students who have completed MTH101 or MTH400 or MTH401.
