Handbook

This subject applies the principle of transformative learning to explore the practice of teaching others in a clinical setting. Students will learn about current educational theories and practices that educators use to facilitate learning with clinicians. The subject will include the development of planned learning experiences and the delivery of unplanned, opportunistic learning experiences. Students will consider the value of engaging with other educators to explore alternate viewpoints and reflect on personal teaching experiences as part of the peer learning process. Finally, students will plan, implement and evaluate an education session in the clinical environment.

This subject will cover the following topics:

• Attributes of meaningful learning activities;
• Theories about learning and teaching;
• Using evidence to support teaching and learning practices;
• Communication in clinical education;
• Meeting the needs of diverse learners;
• Planning an education session;
• Developing high-quality education resources; and
• Engaging with peers for self-development in teaching.
