This subject develops an understanding of the emotions of children from adverse circumstances. How children feel in such circumstances is of paramount importance in child welfare interventions. Emotional development is explained with particular reference to individual variation. This subject considers both genetic and environmental variations in emotional development. It concentrates on the influence of adverse environments on the infant, child and adolescent. It examines current programs that address childhood adversity and builds student capacity in supporting their sustainability.
