Abstract
This subject introduces undergraduate mechanical engineering students to the principles and techniques of experimental methods. Emphasising practical applications, the course covers experimental design, data collection, and analysis specific to mechanical engineering problems. Students will gain hands-on experience in setting up experiments, analysing results, and communicating findings effectively.
Syllabus
Experimental Design for Mechanical Engineering Data Collection Techniques Data Analysis Interpreting Results Ethical and Professional Considerations
Assessment items
1. Laboratory Reports
2. Experimental Design Project
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
Develop and implement experimental designs to investigate mechanical engineering problems and validate engineering hypotheses;
2.
Collect, process, and analyse experimental data using mechanical engineering tools and techniques, including statistical methods and software;
3.
Critically evaluate experimental results, identifying potential sources of error and uncertainty and assessing the implications for engineering practice; and
4.
Communicate experimental methods, results, and conclusions effectively.
