Curriculum Method 2: Drama

Abstract

Teacher education students will explore experiential learning theory and critically apply this methodology to Stage 6 classroom drama education. This subject develops the skills of programming, planning, implementing and assessing classroom drama learning experiences for stage 6 students with a range of abilities and backgrounds. It builds on the knowledge and understanding introduced in the previous subject EML343, developing an appreciation of the K-12 continuum of learning in the discipline of Drama. Teacher education students will design teaching and learning sequences that require learners to engage in the practices of Making, Performing and Critically Studying and to create and test ideas, generate creative works with confidence, shape inquiry and to critically evaluate and reflect on what they do. Students apply teaching and assessment strategies which are appropriate to Stage 6 drama, inclusive of the needs of diverse learners and address cross-curricular priorities / general capabilities.
