Abstract

This subject explores the principles by which acute and chronic exercise affect human physiology, examining how the muscular, metabolic, cardiorespiratory, and hormonal systems adapt. Students investigate the immediate physiological changes during exercise, such as increased heart rate and oxygen consumption, alongside long-term adaptations like decreases in blood pressure and enhanced … For more content click the Read More button below.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
explain the metabolic, muscular, hormonal and cardiorespiratory responses to exercise and adaptations to training;
2.
differentiate the physiological changes and adaptations during exercise in different environmental conditions and external influences;
3.
demonstrate the application and proficiency of the various techniques used in exercise physiology research and physical fitness testing;
4.
differentiate physiological capacities and training adaptations between males and females; and
5.
describe the fundamental principles underlying prescription, implementation and monitoring of exercise programs for healthy populations and for population groups with varying needs.

Assumed knowledge

It is assumed that students have foundational anatomy and physiology knowledge.
