<p>This subject considers critical and ethical issues in education and develops the ability of teacher education students to respond to these issues through their practice. The aims and purposes of education are examined, and their role in contributing to a more just, democratic and sustainable world. To do this, opportunities are provided to critically reflect on systems and structures that shape identity and experiences in schooling, and to understand policies. This subject provides opportunity to develop understanding of pedagogies that support the inclusion of students from diverse linguistic, cultural, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds, including First Nations Australian students. Opportunities are also provided to develop a deepened understanding of educational ethics and reflexivity and their value for teachers, through the practice of ethical decision-making and reflection.</p>
