Abstract
Students participate in a clinical placement program in the provision of clinical care in varied settings in regional NSW. Each clinical site will have students providing dental care under supervision. Clinical learning is reinforced by means of case analyses, case reviews and clinical session reviews by clinical staff.
Syllabus
This subject will cover the following topics:
Clinical oral dental public health;Clinical delivery of oral health care to regional, rural and remote communities;Comprehensive treatment planning; andEthics and jurisprudence.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
identify and discuss the scope of oral/dental health needs of different societal and cultural groups within rural and regional communities;
2.
demonstrate competent comprehensive treatment planning;
3.
demonstrate competence in the provision of treatment for patients with multidisciplinary needs;
4.
manage the decision-making and provision of acute-care treatment as required in a clinical setting; and
5.
undertake and abide by the full range of duties and responsibilities of a dentist in accordance with professional, ethical and legal requirements as defined by the Dental Board of Australia.
Enrolment restrictions
Restricted to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Dental Science course.
Not available to students who have successfully completed DOH483.

Students attending compulsory workplace learning placements are responsible for all associated travel, accommodation and required resources.
Student are also responsible for ensuring they hold a current First Aid Certificate and meet Working with Children and immunisation requirements.
