Syllabus
Treatment planning and evidence-based practice;Periodontics;Non-complex restorative dentistry;Uncomplicated removable prosthodontics;The administration of local anaesthetics;Relief of pain;Simple endodontic procedures;Infection control;Occupational health and safety;Ethical and professional behaviour; andThe interpretation of panoramic and intraoral radiographs.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
be able to demonstrate foundation knowledge and an understanding of evidence-based practice and patient-centred care in the examination, diagnosis and treatment planning of cases in the Year 3 open clinic;
2.
be able to demonstrate foundation knowledge and apply clinical skills relevant to the provision of safe oral local anaesthesia;
3.
be able to demonstrate foundation knowledge and apply clinical skills relevant to the provision of relief of pain, conservative pulpal therapy and simple endodontic treatment; and
4.
be able to demonstrate foundation knowledge and apply clinical skills relevant to the management of simple restorative, periodontic and removable prosthodontic cases.
Enrolment restrictions
Restricted to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Dental Science.
Not available to students who have successfully completed DOH335.

Placement Duration 98 hours Details Students will be timetabled to attend the Charles Sturt Dental Clinic on a weekly basis and will complete, under supervision, the clinical examination, diagnosis, treatment planning and management of a range of dental cases. 14 days (approx 98hrs)
