Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics: Cardiovascular assessment techniques;Electrophysiology and its interpretation (simple and complex 12 lead); Identification, differential diagnosis, treatment, and management of cardiovascular conditions;NSQHS Communication for Safety standard; Leadership, cultural sensitivity, scene management and crew resource management.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
manage cardiac care in the out-of-hospital environment based on specialised knowledge of the pathophysiology and aetiology of acute cardiovascular emergencies;
2.
analyse the current management guidelines of cardiovascular emergencies and develop evidence-based treatment plans relevant to paramedic practice;
3.
evaluate complex data from patient and technologically derived sources (e.g. point of care) to inform decision-making about the clinical care of acute cardiovascular emergencies in the out-of-hospital environment;
4.
demonstrate safe and competent management for adult, paediatric and neonatal advanced life support (ALS) resuscitation of non-traumatic cardiac arrest, including the NSQHS standard communicating for safety in accordance with evidence-based practice and current guidelines; and
5.
integrate autonomous judgement, accountability, and leadership in the management of out-of-hospital cardiac clinical care.
