Clinical Research Dissertation

Abstract

This subject is undertaken over multiple sessions and involves placement in professional practice. Students develop a systematic and critical understanding of a complex field of learning in their chosen discipline and advanced cognitive, technical, and communication skills to generate new knowledge in the chosen field of learning and for the advancement of professional practice through significant original contributions to discipline knowledge. Students apply expert knowledge and skills to progress and finalise the research project. Workplace learning is also undertaken while completing the research project to systematically engage with research-led/integrated practice and satisfy requirements of relevant professional bodies (veterinary specialist colleges): the research-integrated practice will support the research outcomes of the students, as per the AQF specifications for professional doctorate degrees (AQF level 10). Students will produce a body of significant and original research outcomes in the form of a dissertation for independent examination by external examiners of international standing.

Duration 480 hours

Details Workplace learning (WPL) will be undertaken on and/or off campus at a veterinary enterprise which is relevant to the selected discipline and research project. The duration of WPL is a variable amount and negotiated between the student and supervisors, with a maximum duration of 60 days (approx 480 hours) distributed over the 18 month period. The maximum duration of 60 days is 25% of the allocated time for the 96 point subject of 1680-1920 hours (the subject workload hours align with the CSU Subject Outlines policy of 140-160 hours/8 pts). The WPL is designed for students to undertake research in the context of professional practice and to develop capacity for research-integrated practice, which adheres to the specifications and purpose of the professional doctorate degree (AQF level 10).
