Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
apply fundamental principles of rehabilitation and sports medicine to maintain and enhance physical activity across the lifespan;
2.
use an evidence-based approach when recommending activity-based interventions for acute and chronic conditions as part of a holistic person-focused rehabilitation program;
3.
explain the role of a podiatrist in an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team;
4.
demonstrate correct application of therapeutic modalities and provide an ethical justification for their use;
5.
justify pharmaceutical and non-pharmacological management options for musculoskeletal pathology affecting the foot and leg to demonstrate adequate and current knowledge of medicines prior to prescribing; and
6.
discuss relevant potential benefits, harms, medicine-related and person-specific factors to inform an ethical justification for the use of drugs to treat musculoskeletal pathology.
Assumed knowledge
A fundamental knowledge of lower limb anatomy and physiology. Foundational skills in musculoskeletal assessment of the lower limb.

Restricted to students enrolled in the Bachelor Podiatric Medicine or Bachelor Podiatric Medicine (Honours).
