Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
plan and apply a range of physiotherapy assessment and evaluation techniques using tests, imaging, tools and outcome measures relevant to the lower limb and lumbar spine for people across the lifespan;
2.
demonstrate foundational clinical reasoning processes which explore, explain and analyse assessment findings;
3.
plan and implement safe and effective physiotherapy management for disorders of the lower limb and lumbar spine across the lifespan, and recognise when physiotherapy management is no longer required, or referral to another practitioner is appropriate;
4.
locate, evaluate and use evidence-based information to inform decision making and develop and guide their own knowledge, learning and practice;
5.
demonstrate professional and ethical behaviour appropriate to musculoskeletal physiotherapy practice;
6.
communicate effectively to involve the client and relevant others in the planning and implementation of musculoskeletal physiotherapy practice;
7.
critically analyse resources, synthesise the information and communicate effectively according to the context and audience;
8.
reflect on professional practice and recommend actions to improve their own skills and knowledge; and
9.
use risk stratification tools to identify patients at risk of a poor outcome and alter management plans appropriately for these patients.
Assumed knowledge
It is assumed that students have completed PHS112 and/or have foundational knowledge about physiotherapy practice.
Enrolment restrictions
Restricted to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Physiotherapy and Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours).
