Syllabus
This subject will cover the following topics:
Advanced communication skills in practice;Professional behaviour;Assessment and enabling strategies;Advanced intervention planning and evaluation;Actively applying reflective practice;Advanced workplace learning preparation; andThis subject will include one eight-week period of workplace learning (approximately 240 hours).
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
critique the complexities of occupational therapy practice;
2.
demonstrate competent verbal and written communication strategies when engaging with people, including clients and other health professionals;
3.
demonstrate competence in behaviours essential to being a professional;
4.
manage a case load expected of an entry-level occupational therapist as relevant to the placement setting with minimal supervision;
5.
implement well reasoned and appropriate enabling strategies;
6.
evaluate the effectiveness of the enabling strategies implement for clients;
7.
achieve a satisfactory rating for all competencies listed on the fieldwork assessment evaluation form;
8.
critique the provision of occupational therapy services and suggest potential ways to develop practice; and
9.
identify personal goals and learning needs in relation to professional practice.

Placement Duration 240 hours Details The workplace learning experience will usually be undertaken over a 7-week period (approximately 240 hours on placement).While on placement, students will usually work full-time and work a nine-day fortnight such that studentswill usually have 32 days of placement over an 7-week period.
