Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics: Applying communication skills in practice;Professional behaviour;Assessment and enabling strategies;Intervention planning and evaluation;Introduction to reflective practice;Beginning portfolio development;Fieldwork preparation; andThis subject will include one seven-week period of work-integrated learning placement.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
discuss the complexities of occupational therapy practice;
2.
demonstrate competent verbal and written communication strategies;
3.
demonstrate appropriate professional behaviours and engage in reflective practice;
4.
plan and conduct formal and informal assessments of clients with supervision;
5.
design and implement well-reasoned enabling strategies and/or occupation-focused projects;
6.
evaluate the effectiveness of the implemented strategies and projects; and
7.
demonstrate competency in occupational therapy practice in a professional setting.

Enrolment restrictions

Students must be enrolled in Bachelor of Occupational Therapy.

Work integrated learning

Placement Duration 240 hours Details Students will complete a supervised placement at an allocated service/location.The 32 days of placement will usually be undertaken on a full-time basis over a 7 week period (approx. 240 hours).
