Handbook

This subject provides students with a platform to develop their knowledge, and expertise for advanced nursing practice. Students will critically analyse the concept of advanced nursing practice and link this to their own and other specialty areas in nursing. The scope of advanced nursing practice will be explored in the context of contemporary models of care and relevant policies as students evaluate their current practice. Students will also link advanced nursing practice with leadership in nursing and evaluate the importance of advanced nursing practice to the provision of care for First Nations people and other vulnerable minority groups.

This subject will cover the following topics:

• Advanced nursing practice;
• Regulatory frameworks, Codes of conduct, Codes of ethics and risk management;
• Theoretical models and frameworks for advanced nursing practice, support systems, education;
• Leadership in complex environments, professional leadership; and
• Research and quality improvement.
