Abstract
This subject focuses on the principles of transpersonal caring and support students to develop transpersonal competencies in the workplace to enable them to care for people from diverse backgrounds, cultures or experiences. Students will also explore the use of evidence to support Clinical Reasoning and Nursing Practice.
Syllabus
This subject will cover the following topics:
MODULE 1: TRANSPERSONAL CARING. THIS MODULE ENABLES STUDENTS' LEARNING IN RELATION TO THE FOLLOWING:
Building authentic relationships with the patient, and their family or significant others;Being present through mindful communication;Healing through transpersonal caring; andUnconditional positive regard and transpersonal caring.

Definition of cultural safety in health settings;Definition of diversity in health settings;Cultural safety for culturally and linguistically diverse populations; andCultural safety for Indigenous Australians.
MODULE 3: CARING FOR VULNERABLE PEOPLE ACROSS THE LIFESPAN. THIS MODULE ENABLES STUDENTS' LEARNING IN RELATION TO THE FOLLOWING:
Definition of ' vulnerable people';Special groups of people that may be considered vulnerable and how their needs and care differs:People from a non-English background;Immigrants;Children;People from a low socioeconomic background;People with disabilities;People with mental health disorders or illness; andLGBTIQA + people.
MODULE 4: OLDER PEOPLE. THIS MODULE ENABLES STUDENTS' LEARNING IN RELATION TO THE FOLLOWING:
Theories of ageing (e.g. biological, sociological, psychological, and spiritual) with how they impact on the nursing care provided to older people;Age-related changes;Attitudes towards ageing and their effects on provision of care; andCurrent polices and effectiveness of care for older people.
MODULE 5: EVIDENCE IN PRACTICE (2 WEEKS). THIS MODULE ENABLES STUDENTS' LEARNING IN RELATION TO THE FOLLOWING:
Use of evidence in practice;Review search and locate evidence;Components of a research article; andHow to read a research article for evidence.
MODULE 6: CARING IN THE PRACTICE SETTING - WORKPLACE LEARNING. THIS MODULE ENABLES STUDENTS' LEARNING IN RELATION TO THE FOLLOWING:
Caring in the practice setting and workplace learning; andWorkplace learning and clinical reasoning.
