Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
apply knowledge of the anatomical, physiological, social and emotional changes that occur during complex childbearing to provide woman-centred, culturally safe and evidence-informed midwifery care;
2.
demonstrate advancing midwifery knowledge and skills required for safe, woman-centred care during complex childbearing and initiate appropriate action when there is an emergency;
3.
apply strategies to ensure that women experiencing complex childbearing remain central to decision making about themselves and their fetus; and
4.
identify deviations from normal and consult, refer and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to initiate appropriate action in an obstetric emergency.
