This subject introduces students to the dark side of the internet. Students will explore key features of the dark web, dark markets, the role of anonymity and the challenges law enforcement and national security agencies face when operating in these ever-evolving crime-scapes. This subject approaches these challenges as a ‘wicked problem', acknowledging the difficulty in defining the nature of the problem itself, its innumerable causes and the absence of one correct answer. Drawing on the latest research and industry best practice, students will use problem-solving skills to navigate this socially complex area in new and innovative ways as they formulate recommendations, triggering deep reflections on both content and process.
