Module 3: Critical appraisal and application of research evidence in disciplinary context
Critical review of research (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods, First Nations approaches) in their disciplinary context; and
Application of research evidence in your disciplinary context.

Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
describe scientific philosophies, epistemologies and research paradigms in their disciplinary context, including First Nations approaches to research;
2.
explain the ethical values and principles informing research including cultural considerations, with particular reference to First Nations peoples and communities;
3.
explain research concepts including statistical reasoning, bias, confounding factors and inference, at a foundational level;
4.
describe qualitative and quantitative research processes, methods and appraisal including First Nations approaches; and
5.
describe important considerations in the application of research evidence in their disciplinary context for advancement of safe and quality practices in healthcare, sports and exercise.
Enrolment restrictions
All undergraduate physiotherapy, podiatry, occupational therapy and exercise science students in SAHESS courses will undertake this subject. Enrolment is also open to other allied health students.
