Handbook

In this subject students are introduced to a wide range of practical and theoretical concepts pertinent in the science and management of groundwater. Topics covered include: the water cycle, hydrogeology, groundwater recharge / discharge determination, groundwater conceptual modelling, an array of monitoring and sampling methods, groundwater microbiology, groundwater geophysics, groundwater pollution, and groundwater and soil remediation. Students are then introduced to a range of groundwater management approaches including resource allocation, quality protection, and sustainability. This subject has no intensive. On completion students will be able to critically apply a variety of conceptual and practical frameworks that are commonly used to underpin current approaches to addressing groundwater problems in a mining or primary production context.
