This subject introduces students to the role of the teacher in creating positive classroom environments for a range of diverse learners through online study with an embedded classroom experience focus. The professional experience component consists of a 160 hour placement in a Primary K-2 or 3-6 setting. Students will apply their learning from the online modules while under the professional supervision of a practising classroom teacher. They will develop and apply their knowledge of a range of appropriate classroom management strategies to their professional practice as they design, implement and evaluate context appropriate lessons in key learning areas. They will apply strategies that promote positive relationships within the classroom, as well as begin to apply strategies to manage student behaviour. Students will also provide evidence of their progression in developing competence across the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST) at a Graduate level.
