Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics: International Agreements, Commonwealth (Australia) obligations, and Commonwealth Environmental Planning law;State-based threatened species legislation and planning laws;Local Government (Statutory) planning frameworks;Methods for identifying, evaluating and reporting environmental impacts; andIntroduction to environmental management and monitoring;

1. Evaluation of an EIS
2. Referral of an action under Commonwealth Law
3. Environmental monitoring plan

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
broadly and coherently outline processes associated with environmental impact assessment;
2.
coherently articulate the current legislative systems that underpin environmental planning processes, environmental assessment, and reporting in Australia;
3.
select and adopt the correct skills and processes professionals use to evaluate proposed developments in the context state and federal planning and conservation laws and identify and apply other relevant legalisation; and
4.
generate appropriate professional documentation to document project impacts and support consent authorities deliberations on the proposal.
