Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics: Contemporary issues in environmental management at the local, state, national and global levels;Futures thinking for environmental decision-making;Preparing for a successful career in the environmental sector;Working in a multidisciplinary team environment; andDeveloping critical reflective practice.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
identify, synthesise and reflect upon key current environmental issues using appropriate scientific, social and economic arguments within local and global contexts;
2.
critically analyse environmental reports, policy documents and peer-reviewed sources of information;
3.
demonstrate problem solving and decision-making skills as an individual and as a team member;
4.
articulate career aspirations and goals to potential employers highlighting key personal and professional capabilities and competencies;
5.
appraise and reflect upon different workplaces, including their culture, ethical practices, WHS considerations, and roles in environmental science and management; and
6.
employ a range of written and presentation skills to communicate findings and to relate implications to a variety of audiences.

Enrolment restrictions

Work integrated learning

Placement Duration 40 hours Details Students are required to complete 40 hours of work placement with an environmental organisation of their choice. This workplace learning experience will enable students to consolidate their academic learning and develop professional skills through active participation in a professional environment.
