Orthodontics;Bleaching;Orthopantogram and lateral cephalogram;Microabrasion;Paediatric specific treatment;Non-accidental injuries;Special needs patients;Management of the aging dentition;Management of the third molars;Advanced adult referral pathways; andRestoring the occlusal vertical dimension, landmarks and requirements.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
be able to demonstrate cultural competence in the clinical environment;
2.
be able to apply entry level proficiencies in all scopes of oral health therapy practice with emphasis on prevention skills in performing an extensive range of treatment and preventive procedures within the scope of the oral health practitioner;
3.
be able to discern the correct referral pathways and justify when and why this referral is required;
4.
be able to demonstrate a collaborative multidisciplinary approach to oral health care;
5.
be able to identify and apply the appropriate requirements of special needs clients within the oral health setting;
6.
be able to assess and implement critical preventive strategies for high needs communities;
7.
be able to demonstrate entry level skill in working cooperatively with dental and allied health care professionals to meet the holistic needs of the patient;
8.
be able to apply advanced educational, preventative and therapeutic oral health care; and
9.
be able to demonstrate competence in the following clinical skills: local anaesthetic (infil & IDB), class I & PRR, Class II (preferably in AgAm, GIC & composite), Class III, Class IV, Class V, pulpotomy, SSC, complex AgAm, extraction of immobile tooth, deep caries management, NSPT, OPG and hygiene review.

Students attending compulsory workplace learning placements are responsible for all associated travel, accommodation and required resources. Prior to starting placement students will be required to obtain a Senior First Aid Certificate, proof of appropriate immunisation, and National Police and Working with Children checks.
