This subject will cover the following topics:
Chemical foundations;Classification of matter;Stoichiometry;Gases;Atomic structure;Chemical bonding;Condensed states;Solutions;Chemical equilibrium; andAcids and bases.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
understand the language of chemistry;
2.
calculate chemical amounts of matter;
3.
apply known physical laws and perform related calculations;
4.
understand molecular behaviour of matter that explains observed macroscopic properties;
5.
understand states of matter with respect to bonding;
6.
deal with quantities of matter in solutions;
7.
understand the nature of equilibrium and perform calculations; and
8.
understand the properties of acids and bases and perform calculations.
Enrolment restrictions
Enrolment restricted to students undertaking the:
- Bachelor of Wine Business;
- Bachelor of Wine Science; and
- Bachelor of Viticulture courses only.
All other students seeking enrolment in the subject need to seek permission from the subject coordinator.

Students attending compulsory intensive schools on Charles Sturt campuses will incur costs associated with travel, accommodation and required resources.
