Syllabus
This subject will cover the following topics:
Communication skills and professional behaviour;Collection, preparation and analysis of clinical data and/or specimens;Maintenance and promotion of safe work practices;Reflective practice and portfolio development; andDeveloping innovative strategies to deal with factors affecting daily laboratory operations such as sustainability.

Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
demonstrate professional behaviour;
2.
demonstrate general problem solving and decision making skills faced in a diagnostic laboratory;
3.
work independently and as a team member to solve problems;
4.
communicate effectively in both written and oral format within a multidisciplinary workplace;
5.
demonstrate an understanding of workplace health and safety and safe work practices relevant to the discipline;
6.
develop and design solutions for current factors affecting daily operations within a medical science laboratory setting;
7.
identify areas of proficiency within the AIMS Competency-based Standards for Medical Scientists; and
8.
reflect on practical experiences and present tasks undertaken whilst on placement.

Students must be enrolled in the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (Pathology)

Work integrated learning
Placement Duration 140 hours Details Students undertake 20 days (140 hours) placement at a pathology or research laboratory.
