Handbook

This subject introduces students to the principles of health and disease in farm production animals, horses and zoo animals. Students will learn to differentiate between the various types of immune responses in animals, undertake a disease outbreak investigation, and analyse and interpret parasitology studies. Students will appraise risks posed by exotic and endemic diseases, and apply animal health economic principles to common scenarios. Students will have opportunities to explore particular interests in horses, production or companion animals and wildlife, with an overall enterprise health and strategic planning focus. Students will develop a holistic approach to animal health and disease prevention, with a firm foundation in management and husbandry practices.
