This reading subject is for students who have completed both Arabic Language and Culture 3 and Arabic Morphology. Students will engage deeply with classical Arabic literature to further develop their vocabulary and language skills. They will also continue to advance their knowledge and skills in syntax and morphology in application to these texts. Focus is on the morphology of weak letter verbs, and syntactic structures related to the harf jarr (preposition).

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

Clarify words and expressions in the context of poetry and Islamic texts with reference to Arabic-English dictionaries

Examine and infer information from poetry and Islamic texts at the advanced level

Conjugate weak letter verbs accurately in the appropriate tense, number, gender and person

Analyse Arabic texts with reference to syntactic structures related to the harf jarr (preposition)
