This subject provides students with an opportunity to explore future trends and challenges in health care funding and to learn to develop budgetary strategies and financial management strategies. Students develop a business plan related to their current or future health management or leadership context and role, learn how to respond to challenging financial circumstances and to present a cogent argument for a renegotiated budget.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics: Health care funding internationally;Health care funding models;Renegotiating budgets;Managing a budget under challenging circumstances;Strategies for budget control and for working within a budget;Trends and challenges in health care funding; and Accounting principles and financial management tools.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

critically analyse future trends and challenges in health care funding;

create strategies for operational budget and non-budget control;

plan and manage a financial budget through the application of key accounting principles and financial management tools;

develop financial strategies for challenging circumstances and present a cogent argument for a renegotiated budget; and

write a business plan.
