This subject draws on practice theory to contextualise and examine health management and leadership and to highlight the importance of these practices to health care. From this position, students consider their own health management and leadership practices, learn how to enact these with resilience and efficacy and how to make evidence-based decisions in a health care environment often characterised by competing demands and priorities.

Syllabus

This subject will cover the following topics: Health workforce: supply, skill mix and scope of practice;Supportive and empowering workplaces;Inappropriate behaviours and strategies to deal with them;Evidence-based decision-making; andResilience.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

analyse personal workload against competing demands and develop a plan that supports resilience;

compare and contrast strategies to manage a workforce that minimises inappropriate behaviours; and
