Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1.
apply knowledge of pathophysiology and aetiology (characteristics and consequences) of trauma, multi-casualty traumatic emergencies, environmental and toxicological emergencies in the out-of-hospital environment;
2.
analyse the current management guidelines of trauma, multi-casualty traumatic, environmental and toxicological emergencies to develop evidence-based treatments plans for the out of hospital environment;
3.
develop and implement safe and effective treatment plans for complex patient presentations involving trauma, multi-casualty traumatic, environmental and toxicological emergencies;
4.
plan and implement ethical and culturally safe care to adult patients experiencing traumatic, environmental, or toxicological emergencies in the out-of-hospital environment;
5.
communicate and act in a professional manner with patients, bystanders, paramedics, interprofessional healthcare teams and allied emergency service personnel;.
6.
demonstrate safe use of paramedic equipment in simulated (out-of-hospital) environments, and safe clinical skills performance, including application of the NSQHS standard for preventing and controlling infections.
