Abstract
In this subject, students undertake an in depth examination of nutrients and how the body uses nutrients, including ingestion, digestion, absorption, transport, metabolism, interaction, storage and excretion. This is then extended to consider the role of diet and nutrition during various stages of the life cycle and in exercise.
Syllabus
This subject will cover the following topics:
gastrointestinal anatomy and physiology;endocrine and neural control of metabolism;appetite and food intake;physiology of stress;fluid and acid-base balance;anthropometry and growth;changes in nutritional needs related to the life cycle;energetics and thermogenesis; andintroduction to nutritional physiology and physical activity.

Assumed knowledge
Students are assumed to have completed 1st level Human Physiology.
