Abstract

MID448 Midwifery Practice is the workplace learning component of the GDM and extends across the continuum of midwifery practice for a minimum of 12 calendar months but may be extended to ensure all experiences have been achieved and competency demonstrated. In this subject student midwives will apply their theory to practice and will demonstrate achievement of all of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) competencies as well as undertake the required clinical experiences which will be assessed and recorded in their Midwifery Learning Portfolio/Clinical Record Book. Clinical experiences will include continuity of care, antenatal care, labour and birth, complex care, postnatal care and neonatal care. In addition, student midwives will be required to keep a reflective journal of their experiences.

Assumed knowledge

Knowledge and skills relating to being a registered nurse.

Enrolment restrictions

Available only to students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery.

Not available to students who have successfully completed MID443
