Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

describe reproductive anatomy and its relation to function in various species;

explain the endocrine mechanisms that regulate reproduction and the physiological and behavioural changes that occur during the oestrous cycle;
3.
discuss the processes of gametogenesis, fertilisation, foetal development, placentation, parturition and lactation;
4.
apply reproductive principles to control reproductive potential in animals;
5.
evaluate the reproductive potential and identify factors that limit reproduction in males and females;
6.
discuss and explain basic artificial breeding protocols for domestic animals; and
7.
discuss and explain basic methods of contraception.
