Master of Professional Psychology

Overview

The course offers a structured program of psychological skills training based in the scientist-practitioner philosophy. The program’s content addresses the domains of psychological competencies required by the guidelines of the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council, including training in counselling and ethical practice, psychopathology, psychological assessment, psychological interventions, and professional issues.

Entry Requirement

Completion of an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited four year degree within the previous ten years with a Weighted Average Mark of no less than 75 for the fourth year of psychological studies
AND

The personal suitability to undertake professional practice as a psychologist, assessed through interview and referees' reports
AND

Eligibility for provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.

Structure

Course Information

The course consists of four core subjects, and either three compulsory subjects and an elective for the standard award OR a specialisation in School Psychology.

All students complete two Psychological Practice and Research subjects as part of the standard award or for the specialisation.

Since professional placements may be undertaken in any of a variety of settings (public health, forensic institutions, educational organisations, private practices etc), the specific content of the placement and research will be negotiated between the external placement supervisor and the student, and will be approved by the School of Psychology's Placement Coordinator.
