Overview

The primary aim of the program is to produce graduates capable of successfully completing research or an intensive special studies project or advance course work which results in a distinct contribution to knowledge. The graduates should be capable of performing a range of research, policy and planning roles within the security, law enforcement and private sector agencies that use intelligence. Graduates will be expected to identify and research current issues impacting on their work environment and transform the findings of their research into professional practice. It will aim to produce students with the ability to critically assess current policies and evaluate new and emerging trends in intelligence practice. This program will engage students in a study of practical intelligence methodologies, within Australia and Internationally.

Additionally, the program is for students to reflect on their learning and contribute to knowledge and/or practice in their discipline. The graduates will have an understanding of the existing knowledge in the field, and be aware of recent developments in theory and practice. They will also be able to apply this understanding to novel areas, and be able to justify and communicate their conclusions to a range of audiences.

The course is also designed as a "meeting place" between the professional world of its students and the academic world of theory and research.  Successfully completing the course should enhance a student's ability to perform in both worlds.  The course aims to prepare graduates to contribute to theory and research as well as to professional practice.  Through the completion of this course, students will also develop broader graduate attributes articulated by CSU so that they can contribute more fully to the community and their profession.
